Traditional Indian weddings

Indian weddings are known as Vivaha a Sanskrit word is a traditional wedding ceremony. The wedding ceremony is very colorful and celebrated in several days. Everything from home, doors, roof, are decorated with colorful flowers and fabric. The traditional Indian weddings have different ritual in different parts of India. The rituals are processed of a Hindu wedding very widely, by region, area and community. Starts from the mehndi, Haldi, pheras to vedai. Hindu marriages completed with seven pheras in presence of family and friends.

At each steps promises are made by each to other. The primary witness of a Hindu marriage is the sacred fire or Agni in presence of family and friends. The rituals are prescribed in the Gruhya Sutra, are composed by various Rishis such as Baudhayana and Ashvelayana . The pre-wedding and post wedding rituals and celebrations very by region, presence and the resources of the groom, bride and their family. The pre-wedding ceremony include engagement, on the arrival of groom at bride residence. The Hindu wedding ceremony at its core is essentially a Vedic yajna ritual and three key rituals are almost universal, Kanyadan, Panigrahana and Saptapadi, which is respectively giving away to the daughter by the father, voluntarily holding hands near the fire to signify union. The traditional Indian weddings rituals are still followed by every Hindu in India or anywhere.
